Hello there! At Bee Group Accountants, we often get questions about Electronic Service Addresses for Self-Managed Super Funds, so we thought we'd clear things up for you.
What exactly is an Electronic Service Address (ESA)?
An Electronic Service Address is essentially a digital mailbox for your SMSF. It's a specific code or alias that allows your fund to receive electronic messages about contributions, rollovers, and release authorities through the SuperStream system. Having an ESA is mandatory for most SMSFs.
What ESA do we use at Bee Group Accountants?
At Bee Group, we use Class to process our SMSFs. The specific ESA for Class is
smsfdataflow (all one word, all lowercase letters). This is the code you'll need to provide to employers or other funds when they're making contributions or rollovers to your SMSF.
Why is an ESA important?
When employers make contributions to your SMSF, SuperStream requires that a remittance advice is sent alongside the payment. This electronic message must go through the SuperStream system using your ESA. Without a valid ESA, employers and other funds cannot make compliant contributions to your SMSF.
What information flows through an ESA?
It's important to understand that an ESA only receives data - not money. The ESA receives electronic information about:
- Contribution amounts and types
- Rollover details
- Release authorities
The actual money is transferred separately via direct deposit to your SMSF's bank account.
How does this benefit you?
Using our Class ESA (smsfdataflow) ensures that:
- Your SMSF remains compliant with SuperStream requirements
- Contribution data is properly recorded and matched with payments
- The processing of contributions and rollovers is streamlined
- Your SMSF reporting is accurate and up-to-date
